Things To Do

Let me tell you about some wonderful things to do around beautiful North Wales. There's so much to explore and enjoy, and I’m thrilled to guide you through some of our favourite local attractions.

Arguably one of the most exhilarating things to experience is Zip World, a thrilling adventure spread across three sites. The Velocity at Penrhyn Quarry in Bethesda is known for its fast zip line and just over 7 miles from Tyddyn Sydney Bach is close to us. Then there's ZipWorld in Llechwedd Quarry, Blaenau Ffestiniog, offering adventures like Titan, the Bounce Below, and the Underground Caverns. Finally, Zip World Fforest in Betws Y Coed, with unique experiences like the Fforest Coaster and Tree Top Nets, is perfect for a day of fun.

Exploring the Castles of North Wales is another of the many things to do around here. Beaumaris, Caernarfon, Conwy, and Harlech Castles form the Edward 1 Castles World Heritage Site and are steeped in history and architectural wonder. Additionally, the castles built by Llewelyn Fawr, like Dolbadarn, Dolwyddelan, and the ancient site of Prysor Castle, offer a glimpse into our rich Welsh heritage.

The castles are not the only World Heritage Site nearby, there is also the Slate Landscape of Northwest Wales created in 2022. This extends from Port Penrhyn in Bangor in the north to Porthmadog and includes the ports, narrow gauge railways, quarries and museums as well as many other fascinating features open for visitors. The Slate Museum in Llanberis is well worth a visit.

Don’t forget your National Trust cards with the local National Trust properties of Plas Newydd, (4 miles) Penrhyn Castle (5 miles) with Bodnant Gardens (22 miles) with the laburnum Arch in full golden splendour from late May until early June. Like gardens? Then why not visit the Hidden Gardens at Plas Cadnant in Menai Bridge (2miles) and Treborth Botanical Gardens (1.5mile away)

If you love beaches, you're in for a treat. The beaches close to us, like Newborough Warren and Llanddwyn Island, Beaumaris, Penmon, and Red Wharf Bay, offer everything from sandy shores to nature reserves. Some, like Llanfairfechan Beach, are Blue Flag beaches and perfect for a relaxing day by the sea. But don’t forget the joys of Dinas Dinlle, Abersoch and the Whistling Sands Beaches!

Speaking of nature, don't miss out on the local nature reserves. Bangor Ogwen Beach Spinnies and Nantporth are just a short drive away and offer serene spots for bird watching and enjoying the tranquility of nature. The Conwy RSPB Reserve, with its trails and viewpoints, is another delightful place to visit.

Featuring on our list of things to do is the Annual Menai Strait Regatta which takes place from Monday 5th August until Saturday 17th August in 2024. It’s a splendid event, with its sailing and various activities, and is primarily based in Beaumaris but extends up to Caernarfon through the Swellies and around Puffin Island. It's a must-see for sailing enthusiasts and a delightful experience for everyone!

I hope this gives you a taste of the exciting and varied things to do around Tyddyn Sydney Bach. Whether it's enjoying the local events, seeking thrills at Zip World, exploring historical castles, relaxing on beautiful beaches, or immersing yourself in nature, there’s something here for everyone.

Can’t wait to share more about these wonderful places when you visit!

Best wishes

Les
